Consol Energy Center

This six level, 720,000 square foot facility is the home of the Pittsburgh Penguins NHL Hockey and also used for the functions of basketball, arena football, circus, indoor soccer, concerts, tennis, volleyball, stage shows, and exhibitions.   The arena is a Gold LEED certified building with 62 suites plus 4 party suites; 2,000 club seats; and 236 loge box seats.

Heinz Field

The Joint Venture of Hunt Construction Group, Mascaro and ATS–Chester provided Construction Management Services (CM) for the new 65,000–seat Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Stadium (Heinz Field), completed in August 2001 for total contract value of $264 million. These services included pre–construction services and services during construction.

Project

PNC Park

The Pittsburgh Pirates contracted PSI/ ATS–Chester to provide Testing & Inspection Services as part of their overall quality control program.  The stadium is an open-air baseball park using natural turf with a direct view over centerfield of downtown Pittsburgh.  The stadium is supported by structural steel, reinforced concrete and pre-cast concrete components supported on auger cast piles.

Rivers Casino

The Rivers Casino development, located on the North Shore between the Carnegie Science Center and the West End Bridge, is Pittsburgh’s first casino.  Chester Engineers served as the civil/site design engineer for Bergman, Walls & Associates, Ltd., the owner, and local sub-consultants to provide the following engineering services:

  • Environmental investigations to determine the suitability of on-site soils for use and to determine health and safety protocols
  • Traffic studies and roadway design; coordination with PennDOT and Allegheny County
  • Demolition services (existing facilities above and below ground)
  • Site grading
  • Erosion and  sediment control permitting
  • NPDES-post construction storm water permitting
  • Chapter 105 riverfront environmental permitting

Project

David L. Lawrence Convention Center

The Joint Venture of Turner Construction Company, P.J. Dick Incorporated, and ATS–Chester provided Construction Management (CM) Services for this project. The $375 million project consists of the demolition of several existing buildings, and new construction and expansion of the existing convention center building and foundations to a total of 1.5 million square feet. A rather unique construction feature involves the north face of the building suspended aerially above Fort Duquesne Boulevard by use of inverted triangular steel truss structures. Project work included both pre–construction services and services during construction.
